Lots of news to report from practice this week.

  • Kyle Flanagan is likely to return this weekend. He's been out with a knee injury since St. Lawrence's home tie with Cornell. Coach Joe Marsh said would not expressly say Flanagan would return, only that it is probable.

  • Jared Keller has been out since Thanksgiving with concussion-related issues. Marsh said he is suffering from "post concussion syndrome." At the advice of doctors, Keller has returned home to Saskatchewan for at least one week. Derek Keller said doctors wanted him to rest his brain as much as possible. He added that Jared was symptom-free (headaches and light-headed the major symptoms) for most of the day on Tuesday, which is better than how he felt at St. Lawrence.

  • Greg Carey set the Ontario Jr. A record for goals in a season. He made it by one, scoring his 72nd goal in the second period of the final regular season game. Carey will join the Saints next season. Assistant coach Mike Hurlbut said Carey already has an NHL-ready shot and loves to use it. That's good news with the fire power lost from Mike McKenzie and Travis Vermeulen next year.

  • Vermeulen had a night class yesterday and was not able to do the "Get to Know a Saint." Instead, I spoke with equipment manager Doug Weaver (Drew's brother). He dished some dirt on the guys from a bit of a different angle. That will be posted tomorrow afternoon.

  • Notes preview Friday's notes will include three topics: 1. Mike McKenzie recorded his 100th point last weekend. I asked him how it felt and what his dad had to say. 2. The importance of having four of the remaining six games at home and how hungry that makes the guys and coach Marsh to take advantage of it. 3. Greg Carey — why the coaches love him and what they expect him to bring to St. Lawrence.
