Petizian is playing out of his mind here in overtime.
Third Period notes
Petizian makes a great stop and we're headed to overtime.
THERE IT IS. GOAL VERMEULEN
Saints miss three shots by about a foot. Unbelievable how one hasn't gone in to tie this.
Saints fail to score on the power-play.
Penalty Princeton...
Things are getting a little chippy here. Saints are getting frustrated with not scoring and, really, not getting shots.
Bollig is starting to get fired up. Look out.
Second period impressions
St. Lawrence briefly had some momentum with a game-tying score at 10:02, but the Tigers came back at 15:29 with an even-strength goal. Pretty passing left Dan Bartlett on the weak side with an open net. Petizian had no chance.
St. Lawrence has a lot more energy this game than the last. Penalties have killed the Saints, however. You're not going to win many games giving six power plays in the first two periods. If they can stay out of the box and Princeton picks up a couple penalties, there's hope yet of getting the win and two points. The Saints have yet to lose three straight this season. They've lost two at home, including last night.
Second period notes
Petizian makes another nice stop as St. lawrence kills off the penalty.
St. Lawrence picks up another penalty. Will virtually finish the period on a penalty kill.
Goal PRI Dan Bartlett scores his team-leading 16th goal of the season to give the lead back to Princeton.
Goal SLU Vermeulen on the power play. Bollig and Flanagan assisted.
Petizian makes a nice stop. Princeton makes a few mistakes as the penalty is killed.
Saints hit the right post, but can't score. Now, Caister heads to the box.
Penalty killed. Great job there by SLU. That has to give them some momentum.
Penalty on Dewey for interference.
No one scores on their power play chance and we're back to even strength.
First period impressions
A sensational stick-handling and skating effort from Arhontas led to the only goal of the game so far. This game could easily be 2- or 3-0 for Princeton, but Petizian is making his first start since the Clarkson series a memorable one. He made 14 stops in the first period, allowing only the one power-play goal. St. Lawrence seems to be playing better than last night, but still can't find the back of the net. Their shots are getting to the goal, but they're from the point and not point-blank. They aren't really crashing the net either. Princeton goalie Zane Kalemba stopped eight shots in the first period.
The Saints have to start playing with some urgency. After losing to Quinnipiac last night — a team that had lost 8 straight games before last week — and Princeton, which is 10-12-2 overall and 6-10-1 in the ECAC, the Saints were hoping for four points and now scrambling for one.
First period notes
38 seconds into the second power-play, the Tigers pick up a penalty. We're 4-on-4 for the rest of the first period.
Goal PRI A beautiful move by Arhontas gets by the Saints defense and beats Petizian. Caister heads to the box with a late penalty on the play.
Keller heads to the box now with a slashing penalty.
St. Lawrence looked great on the penalty kill, even had a chance at a shorthanded goal.
Armstrong heads to the box, Saints go on the kill. He's in for two minutes for roughing.
Saints fail to score on their first power-play chance, but are looking much better tonight.
St. Lawrence on the power-play already taken a few shots, which seems more than they did last night.
Neither team is really gaining any kind of advantage. SLU is controlling the pace and zone time a little more than Princeton, but so far, things are pretty even. The good news is the energy is there. Petizian saved a goal just a moment ago on a 2-on-1 rush.
The puck is just bouncing all over the ice. No one is able to control it for very long.
St. Lawrence has come out skating a little better, but the energy still seems to be lacking...
