March 11, 2000:Nearly 700 trees will be planted in the city of Watertown starting next month with a $160,000 grant from the U.S. Forest Service. The plantings will take place on 29 streets throughout the city.

March 11, 1985:A Malaysian who has never set foot in Jefferson County is the buyer of 750 acres of land in the town of Lyme owned partly by a land speculator who was once indicted for real estate fraud. The scrub land on the Three Mile Creek Road was sold for $110,000 by a group head by Arnold Mann, Cos Cob, Conn. Mr. Mann was indicted on charges dealing with a real estate operation allegedly involving $1.3 million in phony land sales in New York state.

March 11, 1960:The need for a storm sewer master plan to serve two 80-acre residential developments in the southwest section of Watertown and the adjoining area in the town of Watertown has been presented to the Watertown City Council in a report of Cook Engineers, city.

March 11, 1935:A survey of all the street roads in the city will get under way as soon as the frost comes out of the ground. There is some agitation among city officials and taxpayers to lay concrete roadways on Washington and State streets.

March 11, 1910:Fred P. Dunaway, county superintendent of the poor, says he has the greatest calf on record. The calf weighed 144 pounds at birth, and today tipped the scales at 166 pounds. A weight of 75 pounds at birth is the average for a calf.

125 years ago

March 11, 1885:While Julius and John London, Canadian Frenchmen, were grinding an ax in Taylor Brothers' knife factory at Fulton the other day, the former caught his clothing on a screw projecting from a crank. His clothing was all but torn off except about 4 inches of his pantaloons, which were tied around his ankles. He was not hurt much.
