JCC announces recent additions to its faculty and staff

The following faculty and staff members joined Jefferson Community College prior to the fall 2009 and spring 2010 semesters:

Andrew R. Burgess, Watertown, joined the Learning & Success Center as a learning skills specialist in mathematics. He graduated from JCC with an associate of science degree in mathematics and science and went on to earn a bachelor of arts degree in math and secondary education followed by a master of science in education from SUNY Potsdam. He completed his student teaching at Herman-DeKalb Central High School and Canton Central High School.

Daniel T. Connell, Watertown, joined JCC as an instructor in the nursing department. Mr. Connell is a registered nurse at Samaritan Medical Center, responsible for a 30- to 50-bed unit, and previously served as nurse manager and licensed practical nurse at Mercy of Northern New York. He earned his associate of applied science degree in nursing at JCC and a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Chamberlain College of Nursing.

Lisa A. Cooley, Watertown, joined JCC as an instructor in the nursing department. Most recently she was director of nursing at Mercy of Northern New York and nursing supervisor at Samaritan Keep Home. Previously she was nurse manager at Samaritan Keep, nurse manager of the dementia unit at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, nursing adjunct instructor at JCC and certified nursing assistant instructor at Jefferson-Lewis Board of Cooperative Educational Services in Watertown. Ms. Cooley holds an associate of applied science degree in nursing from SUNY Canton and a bachelor of science degree in nursing from SUNY Plattsburgh.

Marlene P. Johnson, Dexter, joined JCC in a Department of Labor grant-funded position as an instructor in the nursing department. Most recently she served as education coordinator at Carthage Area Hospital. Previously she spent more than 20 years at Samaritan Medical Center in numerous roles. Ms. Johnson holds an R.N. diploma from St. Joseph's College of Nursing, Syracuse, and a bachelor of science in nursing from SUNY Plattsburgh.

Stephanie G. Lamon, Dexter, joined the business division as instructor of office technologies. Ms. Lamon has served as an adjunct instructor at Jefferson-Lewis BOCES and as the Advanced Technology Training and Information Networking Lab manager in Watertown for the State University of New York. She has been a substitute teacher and worked for the Children's Home of Jefferson County. Ms. Lamon holds a bachelor of arts degree in English/writing arts from SUNY Oswego.

Spencer Nowak, Massena, joined the instructional technology department as college webmaster. He is a recent graduate of Clarkson University, Potsdam, where he earned a bachelor of science degree in digital arts and sciences and a bachelor of science degree in communication and media. Mr. Nowak earned the Clarkson School Award for Academic Excellence and Outstanding Character.

Stacy E. Pratt, Sackets Harbor, joined the liberal arts division as an instructor of English. Ms. Pratt earned a doctorate in English/creative writing from the University of Southern Mississippi. She also holds a bachelor of arts degree in English from Northeastern State University in Oklahoma and a master of arts degree in English/literature from the University of Arkansas. Previously she was an instructor of English at Northeastern State and an adjunct instructor at Cameron University in Oklahoma.

Julie L. Roy, Watertown, joined JCC as an instructor in the nursing department. She previously worked for Samaritan Medical Center, where she most recently served as staff nurse in the progressive care unit. Since 2006, Ms. Roy has also taught at JCC as an adjunct nursing clinical instructor. She earned an associate of applied science degree in nursing from Elizabethtown Community College and a bachelor of science degree in nursing from SUNY Plattsburgh.

Shirley A. Weikel, Lorraine, joined JCC in a Department of Labor grant-funded position as an instructor in the nursing department. Since 1988, she has been employed by Samaritan Medical Center, first as a staff nurse, then as clinical coordinator in the nursing education department and most recently as staff nurse in critical care. She held the rank of captain in the Army Nurse Corps. She holds a bachelor of science in school-nurse teacher education from SUNY Plattsburgh and a master of science in nursing from Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
