QUEENSBURY — Katlyn Hart made some key 3-point baskets and finished with 16 points to lead the Harrisville girls basketball team to a 55-51 victory over Section 2 champion Argyle in a state Class D quarterfinal game Saturday at Adirondack Community College.

The win gives the Pirates (18-4 overall) their first trip to the state final four in school history. Harrisville will face Section 3's Hamilton in a semifinal at 10:45 a.m. Saturday at Hudson Valley Community College.

Harrisville built a lead as big as 15 points late in the third quarter before the Scots (18-4) began to make a run, cutting the lead to 46-45. But Hart hit two 3-pointers down the stretch to seal the win, finishing with nine of her points in the fourth quarter.

"They are a good team, so any quality team is going to make a run and they certainly did that," said Pirates coach Pete Wood. "Fortunately we stepped up and hit a couple of big 3's in the end and got the win tonight."

Patty Coloney and Kathleen Coloney each added 12 for the Pirates. Jacquelyn Miller led Argyle with 20 points, including five 3-point baskets.

WATERVLIET 31, OFA 26

The Ogdensburg Free Academy girls basketball team came to the Capital District with two causes.

The Blue Devils were unsuccessful in one area. It remains to be seen if they'll be successful in the other.

A high energy Watervliet team defeated OFA in a state Class B quarterfinal game at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. Watervliet moves on to the state semifinals where it will play Oneonta on Friday in Troy.

Prior to the game, OFA wore "Save OCF" T-shirts, a reference to the Ogdensburg community's campaign to prevent the closing of the Ogdensburg Correctional Facility. The day before, the Blue Devils (15-9) and the coaching staff gathered on the steps of the State Capitol Building in Albany to state their case.

Watervliet (19-4) held OFA scoreless until 28 seconds remained in the first quarter. By the end of the game, OFA's leading scorer, Megan Morrison, had just six points and was 1-for-8 from the field.

"Tierney McGlynn might have been the best defender we played against all season," said OFA coach Mark Henry.

"We knew that they were going to be very physical. And they were. They crashed the boards and we didn't do well with that. We didn't box out as well as we could have. Playing without Elisa St. Germain (All-NAC forward sidelined by knee injury) really hurt there."

Watervliet went into halftime with a 14-11 lead. Morrison hit for her only 3-pointer and Chelsea Martin scored to make it 29-21 with just under three minutes remaining. The Cannoneers struggled to close out the Devils in missing nine straight free throws. They converted only seven of 23 in the fourth quarter and were 12-of-37 for the game.

"We cut it to eight midway in the fourth quarter and then had a chance to get it to six when I thought we got fouled, and that was a critical break," Henry said. "I was absolutely happy with our defensive play. The girls played their hearts out, they are a great team."

Nae White paced Watervliet with eight points, 13 rebounds, and four steals. Lashona Tolliver posted seven points, and Skelly grabbed 10 rebounds.

MAPLE HILL 52,

BRUSHTON-MOIRA 46

Katie Roth scored 24 points to lead the Section 2 Wildcats (23-0) past Brushton-Moira in a Class C quarterfinal game at Adirondack Community College.

Jessica Dailey scored 12 points for Maple Hill, which built an 18-10 lead by the end of the first quarter.

Chenice Russell lead the Panthers (21-2) with 21 points and Emily Lepage tossed in 10.

BOYS BASKETBALL

GERMANTOWN 56, CHATEAUGAY 48

Section 2's Germantown (19-4) went on an 18-9 run in the fourth quarter to defeat the Bulldogs in a Class D quarterfinal at SUNY Plattsburgh. Thomas Griffin led Germantown with 22 points. Eli Franze led Chateaugay (20-4) with 15 points.
