Doris M. Knight

GOUVERNEUR — Doris M. Knight, 84, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010 at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur.

Doris was born in Hammond on June 27, 1925, the daughter of Earl and Della LaPierre Marcell.

Doris attended schools in Richville, Hammond, and Oxbow. She lived most of life in Gouverneur where she worked as a teacher's aide for the Headstart program.

She was a fifty-five year member of the Gouverneur VFW Post #6338 Ladies Auxiliary where she served as President and was awarded the 1992-1993 Auxiliary Lady of the Year. Doris was also a member of the United Methodist Church, Gouverneur Senior Citizens, and a founding member of the Gouverneur Vol. Rescue Squad auxiliary. She enjoyed playing bingo, dancing, scratch-off lottery tickets, and spending time at the VFW and with her family.

She was previously married to Leo R. Knight Sr.

Doris is survived by her daughter Hope and Carl Thies of Philadelphia, her son Leo Jr. and Lisa Knight of Fowler, three grandchildren Jennifer and Derick Call, Kurtis Knight, and Kortney Knight, two great grandchildren Hannah Call and Haylee Call, a sister-in-law MaryLou Marcell of Long Lake, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, a sister Dora Littlebrant, three brothers Jack Hughes, Kenneth Marcell, and Ernest Marcell.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 17th at 11:30 am at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Rev. Penni Farrington, pastor of the Philadelphia United Methodist Church officiating. Calling hours will be prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:30 am.
