Watertown City School District officials soon will begin implementing changes to get its high school off the state's need-for-improvement list.
The state Education Department made the recommendations for Watertown High School. The school was placed on the need-for-improvement list under the No Child Left Behind Act because English-language arts testing results for students with disabilities and economically disadvantaged students did not meet state benchmarks.
It may be a year before the process is complete, Assistant Superintendent Marilyn H. Trainor said at the Board of Education meeting Tuesday.
District officials expect to receive a hard copy of the state Education Department's evaluation of the school. The evaluation will contain observations, findings and recommendations from department representatives who visited the school in December.
