CANTON — The parents of a Gouverneur woman who died in a head-on collision in Jefferson County in June 2007 have been awarded a $150,000 settlement.

The lawsuit filed in August 2007 by Randy R. and Carol A. Sibley, on behalf of Jessica R. Sibley, sought damages against Jesse W. Hancock and Robert L. Hancock.

State Supreme Court Judge David R. Demarest approved the settlement offer earlier this month. The Sibleys will receive $95,000 through their daughter's estate. Norwood attorney Robert J. Sassone will receive $55,000 for fees and legal costs.

Jessica Sibley, 20, died of injuries suffered in the June 21, 2007, crash. The accident happened on Route 11 in the town of Philadelphia when a car driven by Jesse W. Hancock, Cobleskill, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the Sibley car.
