Wentworth, Colwell headline all-state team

First-team selections Kacie Wentworth of Canton and Mackenzie Colwell of South Lewis led 14 north country softball players on the all-state lists announced this week.

Wentworth, a junior pitcher, allowed only four runs this season and threatened the state record by hurling 20 consecutive shutouts en route to a spot on the Class B first team. She also had five no-hitters and 216 strikeouts.

Colwell batted .500 with five home runs, 41 RBIs and an .816 slugging percentage during her senior campaign, earning a Class C first team nod at third base.

Canton's Samantha Corbett was on the second team in Class B, Sam Brown of Canton was on the third team, and Jenna LaLone from South Jefferson made the fourth team.

In Class C, Jamie Wiley from Thousand Islands is on the third team, while Jenna Kraeger of South Lewis and Ashley Thayer of St. Lawrence Central made the fourth team.

Area Class D picks were: Sara Sloan and Megan Johnson of Heuvelton (third team), and Samantha Weaver of Heuvelton, Krista Lucas of St. Regis Falls and Jenn Lasial of Lisbon (fourth team)
