Red & Black posts second win of year

ENDICOTT — Brian Williams carried the ball 13 times for 135 yards to guide the Watertown Red and Black to a 21-0 Empire Football League semipro football victory over Broome County on Saturday night at Union-Endicott High School.

The Red and Black (2-0) got a sterling defensive effort, recording 12 quarterback sacks. Demetri White led the way with six sacks, while James Way and Steve Roy each had three.

Watertown opened the scoring in the first quarter on Joe Brennan's six-yard touchdown run while Sidney Gottschalk added a one-yard TD run in the third quarter.

Nate McKeever added a pair of field goals, including 35 and 42 yards, while Adrienne Paris blocked a Broome County punt that resulted in a safety for the Red and Black.

Watertown's Todd Kiechle made two catches for 69 yards. On defense, Mike Dumaw intercepted a Broome County pass and returned it 27 yards.

The first half was played in a hard rain.

"At halftime it was raining so hard I couldn't see across the field," Red and Black assistant coach Rich Potter said.

The Dragons fell to 1-1 on the year.

GLADIATORS 28, REVOLUTION 22 (OT)

The Watertown Revolution battled unbeaten Buffalo throughout regulation before succumbing in overtime in a Northeastern Football Alliance game at Lions Field in Clayton.

Buffalo (5-0) scored on a 14-yard run with three minutes remaining in overtime to clinch the win.

Each team traded touchdowns for three quarters before going scoreless in the final quarter.

Mike Ascough scored a pair of touchdowns for the Revolution (2-3). He scored on a 21-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Lamont Lane in the first quarter and ran back a kick return 84 yards in the third quarter.

Lane also scored on a 17-yard run for Watertown.

The Revolution returns to play after a bye next week with a road game against Oneida County.
