Judy Hirt, was one of four recruits recently signed for UB rowing's Lightweight Program, which is ranked among the best in the nation. She plans to major in history at UB.

Brockville Collegiate, which has long featured an outstanding high school rowing program, also took gold in Senior Men's 4 and placed four boats in the finals of the three-day championships.

The Schoolboys gold was a crowning achievement for Hirt and her teammates following up a gold medal in the ERA Championship Regatta and a bronze medal at Row Ontario Championships in 2009.

In the Schoolboys final, BCI pulled away in the final 1,000 meters from Blessed Trinity of Grimsby and Notre Dame College of Welland.

"They (Women's 4) showed us a little more than what we expected over the bottom 1,000 meters of that race," BCI coach Chris Marshall told the Brockville Recorder and Times after the victory.

Last weekend, Hirt won a gold medal in Women's 4 and a silver medal in Women's 2 back at the St. Catharines Invitational. She is competing in the Ontario Championships today.
