Homeless veterans in the north country will get some help with $3 million in federal funding allocated to Central New York agencies.
The Syracuse Veterans Affairs Medical Center will hire five people to serve the Fort Drum area with a $1 million grant. The other $2 million will go to the Utica/Rome/Oneida County Continuum of Care, a homeless-assistance coalition approved by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Yet it is looking for "partners" in Jefferson County to get closer to those being served, which sounds like another administrative layer.
"If they're (veterans) all up in Jefferson County, the whole project is up there," one administrator said.
So why aren't the funds and the program, too?
