LAFARGEVILLE — Racing will resume this week at Can-Am Motorsports Park following a violent thunderstorm last week that did considerable damage to the facility.

Three days of racing begins Friday night with a regular race program. Go-kart racing will be Saturday and one of the biggest enduro race programs ever in the north country is scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Gerald "Tiger" Chapman, owner and promoter of the speedway, said Tuesday that most of the major repairs have been made to the tower and grandstand area. Chapman said that state safety officials have deemed the facility safe for fans to view the races.

"The tower roof has been replaced and the electrical work has been completed," Chapman said. "There is still some work to be done on the individual rooms above the grandstand that may or may not be completed prior to this weekend's races. There are a lot of little other things to do too, but with any luck, we should have them completed before Friday's races."
