Triche lends helping hand to kids

His actions on the court spoke volumes.

His very few words were quick and to the point.

Syracuse University sophomore guard Brandon Triche has been a guest instructor for the No-Nonsense Basketball Camp at OFA this week and according to co-founder Scott Sargent his actions and message was just amazing.

As a freshman at Syracuse, Triche started all 35 games. He averaged 8.1 points, collected 30 steals, 99 assists and grabbed 63 rebounds.

Triche was named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the fall semester and The Sporting News named Triche to its Big East All-Freshman Team and he was named a Freshman All-American by collegeinsider.com.

"It's amazing how hard he works at all the drills teaching the kids," Sargent said of Triche, who works in a Syracuse Recreation Center with OFA graduate and camp staff member Zach Dodge.

"Every drill he was giving 150 percent," Dodge said. "He was working his tail off to show our campers the right way to do things. He didn't want to do much speaking but his work ethic made up for it. He has been a great asset to the camp."

And No-Nonsense is a perfect name for the camp according to Triche.

"This camp was very well run. It's very structured. They do everything on time and they're doing a lot of tough things and they do a lot of tough drills," Triche said of the camp, which focuses on skill development overall game-play.

"I'm a guy who likes to practice before games. Practice prepares me for 40 games. Even though this camp is going just five days. It's going to help you down the road, especially if you're playing on Saturday. Here they do a lot with the fundamentals and skills.

"I've tried to perform the drills with the kids ... so they're seeing the drill at the higher level. To watch it full speed is a good thing. It helps them see where these kids need to get too."

Triche, a 6-4 guard, played for Canton native Bobby McKinney at Jamesville-DeWitt High School.

A four-year starter at J-D, Triche was a team captain as a junior and senior.

He was a first-team All-Central New York selection for four years and earned first-team all-state in his junior and senior years. He totaled 1,926 points in his career, the third-best Section III total at the time.
