BROWNVILLE — Nina M. McPhilmy 85 years loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, died Thursday July 29, 2010 at Corning Hospital.

She was born Feb. 2, 1925, in Brownville, NY the daughter of the late John J. and Catherine Fargo Mosher. She attended the University of Miami and married John Redmond McPhilmy, also of Brownville, in 1951.

Nina was the office manager of her husband's electrical contracting business in Corning, New York from 1959 until his death in 1977. During that time she attended Corning Community College and while a freelance writer, she published a book and several articles which were published in national magazines and area newspapers.

She was a secretary/assistant at the Corning Museum of Glass from 1979-1984. During that time she graduated from a program of credit courses offered by Cornell's New York State School of Industrial and Labor Relations at the College Center of the Finger Lakes. From 1984-1994 she was an Assistant to the Managing Editor in the Publications Department of the Museum.

Nina was a charter member of the Junior Women's Club of Corning. In 1975 she chaired a committee to set up the Southern Tier Hospice Inc. She was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Southern Tier Heart Association, and a Literacy Volunteer in the Central Southern Tier program from 1995-1996.

Surviving, sons, Michael J. McPhilmy and Nadine Lomakin of Philadelphia, PA and Steven A. and Beth McPhilmy of Frederick, MD; daughter, Jeanne A. McPhilmy and Howard Berger of Norwalk, CT. Four grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sixteen-year-old son, John Richard McPhilmy, sister, Mae K. Barnes, and brothers, Bernard, Clarence, Gordon, and Howard Mosher.

Friends may call at the Haughey Funeral Home, 216 E. First St., Corning, NY Sunday August 1, 2010 from 4-6 p.m. A Prayer Service will be offered Monday August 2, 2010 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian

Burial 10 a.m. St. Mary's Church, Corning, NY. Committal Prayers and Interment will be held at the family plot in St. Mary's Cemetery, Corning, NY.

The family would appreciate Memorial Donations be given in Nina's name to: The Children's Program of the Salvation Army, 32 Denison Parkway East, Corning, NY 14830.
