GREAT BEND — George W. "Andy" Anderson, 65, died on Thursday afternoon, July 29, 2010, at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

George, better known as "Andy," was born in Davenport, Iowa on November 29, 1944, a son of William Franklin and Lilah Jean Dick Anderson. "Andy" graduated from Davenport High School and then enlisted in the United States Army. When he returned home, he worked in the foundries for many years before coming to New York to work at Fort Drum at the Range Control. He retired in December of 2009.

"Andy" was married and divorced. He leaves behind six children, Scott Anderson of Texas, Deb, Mary, Beth, Mike and Sonja; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and step-children.

He was a member of the BPOE Elks Lodge #1605 in Lowville, the Marine Corps League #754 in Lowville and was an officer of the Black River American Legion #673.

He loved to be at camp with his friends and family and also enjoyed reading, watching the History Channel, cooking and working on the computer.

A graveside service with military honors will be on Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at 11:30 A.M. at the Black River Cemetery with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired minister, officiating. A luncheon will follow at the American Legion in Black River for his family and friends. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are with the Sundquist Funeral Home.
