CARTHAGE — Hazen R. Thomas, Sr., 86, Great Bend - Champion Rd., passed away Monday evening at the Samaritan Medical Center surrounded by his family. He had been a resident of the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home for the past 2 years.

Mr. Thomas worked on several dairy farms through out the area to include the Dorr Farms in Black River. He also worked for the Hughes Chicken Farm in Mannsville, the Deer River Saw Mill and for Jefferson Concrete Co., Watertown for 14 years until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening and yard work.

He married Anna Potter June 19, 1946.

Besides his wife of 63 years, he is survived by three sons and their wives, Hazen Jr. (Jake) and Sonja, Colorado; Larry W. and Pat, Texas; Richard and Kathie, Carthage. A daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Thomas Greenwood, Black River. Six grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie Jean, age 6 and a son Ricky Lynn, 4 days old. His brothers Kenneth and Fay and a sister Hilda Snyder also predeceased him.

The funeral will be Friday 11 a.m. at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Cpt. Shannon Philio, Fort Drum Hospital Chaplain, officiating. Burial will follow in Sulphur Springs Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
