ADAMS — After more than a year of construction and several months of a miles-long detour, the new Lisk Bridge will reopen on Tuesday.

The bridge, which carries County Route 69 over Sandy Creek in the town of Adams, was rebuilt 75 feet south of the span's previous location. The bridge was widened and a 90-degree curve in the road was eliminated to increase visibility and safety for drivers.

Jefferson County Highway Superintendent James L. Lawrence Jr. said some minor finishing touches are being done to the road but that should not hold up the reopening of the bridge.

"It's not open to the public yet," he said. "We still have to finish up some paving there. We also need to add some finishing touches to the landscape work, install the guardrails and fix some minor drainage issues."

The project received federal funds, which helped to fast track the $2.6 million repair.

"Our goal is to have it open by the time school does, and that should be no problem," Mr. Lawrence said.
