Golden Bears fall in Chazy tourney

CHAZY — Zach Towle scored two goals to lead the Beekmantown boys soccer team to a 3-1 win over Canton in a semifinal of the Chazy Tournament on Thursday.

Canton (0-1) will face Chazy in the consolation game at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Jordhan Varin added one goal and one assist for Beekmantown. Brandon Bartley scored off a pass from Kyle Nason for Canton.

VOLLEYBALL

OFA 3, MASSENA 0

Sara Weir scored 20 points, including 11 aces, and produced 10 kills to lead the Blue Devils (1-0) to a 25-17, 25-23, 25-20 sweep of Massena (0-2) in a Northern Athletic Conference match in Ogdensburg.

Charrette Spooner added 18 assists and Emily McLellan scored 10 points for OFA. Demi White led Massena with 11 points, all on aces.

MALONE 3, CANTON 1

Chelsea Metcalf scored 22 points, including seven aces, and added seven kills to lead Malone (1-0) to a 25-22, 18-25, 25-6, 25-9 win over the Golden Bears in Canton.

Allison Poupore scored 12 straight service points for the Huskies to start the fourth game. Canton (1-1) was led by Elizabeth McGregor's 10 points and Emily Archibald's nine kills.

SALMON RIVER 3, EDWARDS-KNOX 0

Leslee Loran scored 24 points and added nine kills as Salmon River gained a 25-5, 25-14, 25-10 sweep of the Cougars in the season opener for each team in Russell. Nicole Smoke added 11 points and 13 assists for the Shamrocks.
