Goals by Laird, Scott propel Saints

POTSDAM — Alex Laird and Sean Scott scored goals to lead the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Roberts Wesleyan in the Lotto Classic on Friday afternoon at Clarkson University.

Laird scored off a pass from Tyler McCune in the 63rd minute and Scott from Sam DeMello in the 88th minute for the Saints (1-0). Brian Abernethy made three saves to shut out Roberts Wesleyan (1-2).

HOUGHTON 2, CLARKSON 0

Steve Zacchigna made five saves to blank the Golden Knights (0-1) in the other Lotto Classic game at Clarkson.

Houghton (2-2) opened the scoring with an own goal in the 24th minute and added a second-half goal from Aaron Martin, with Daniel Smith assisting.

GIRLS SOCCER

ST. LAWRENCE 2, LASELL 0

Erika Gobeille and Stephanie Sayward scored goals nine minutes apart in the first half to lead the Saints past Lasell (0-1) in a North Country Classic game at SLU.

Abby van Geldern made four saves for SLU (1-0).

SUNY GENESEO 5, CLARKSON 0

Anne Beinetti scored twice to help lead SUNY Geneseo (1-0) past the Golden Knights (1-1) in the other North Country Classic game.

Olivia Panepinto and Bre Glynn also scored for SUNY Geneseo, which also received an own goal. Katie Clerkin made five saves for the shutout.
