Poirier takes first

LAFARGEVILLE — Steve Poirier led the way in winning the Empire Super Sprints feature Friday night at Can-Am Motorsports Park. Poirier overtook leader Lance Yonge and then held off a hard-charging Shawn Donath for the victory. Justin Barger finished third. Jeff Cook of Antwerp finished sixth.

Steve Paine beat the rain and the field to win the 30-lap big block/358-modified feature. Adam Roberts finished second and Rob Bellinger was third.

Dunn went on to capture the big-block modified track title and Tim O'Brien won the 358 modified track title.

The heat actions was completed in the late model and sportsman divisions, but the features have been rescheduled due to rain. The late models were rescheduled for Sept. 17, while the sportsman are slated for Oct. 6.

Matt Hulsizer was crowned with the sportsman title, and Lee Gill took the late model title.

PLANCK DOMINATES FIELD

Dale Planck dominated the field in Friday night's Frenchie's Chevrolet Labor Day Shootout 50 at the Mohawk International Raceway in Akwesasne. Despite not being among the top drivers on Friday, Carey Terrance of Akwesasne won the track title.

Chris Raabe recorded his 14th win of the season at the track. He also was a runaway winner for the track title in the sportsman division.

Ricky Thompson won the pro stock feature and with it the track title for the 2010 season.

Joey Foster won his 12th bandits feature of the season. He also won the track title for the second straight year.

PHELPS, SHEPPARD WINNERS

Matt Sheppard won the 50-lap big-block modified feature Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway. The win was worth $3,000, but Jimmy Phelps came away with the track title in the division. Danny Johnson finished third, with Billy Decker and Michael Storms finishing in the top five.

Other winners were: Dale Caswell (late models); Brandon Carvey (IMCA modifieds) and Gary Jeffries (mod lites).
