PARISHVILLE — Mr. Harold E. Decker, 77, of Parishville, N.Y. passed away at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital on Sept. 4, 2010 where he had been admitted Aug. 23.
There will be a memorial mass on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam, N.Y. with Msgr. Robert Aucoin celebrant. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 8 from 4-7 p.m.
Harold is survived by his wife, Jacqueline of Parishville; daughters, Sue (Martin) Collins of Colton, Kelly (Arnie) Ashlaw of Chateaugay; sons, Robin Decker of Cortland, Scott Decker of Colton; grandchildren, Chris and Nick Decker of Cortland, and Emily Ashlaw of Chateaugay. He also has two brothers, Robert and Donald Decker; and two sisters, Patricia Marshall and Carol Medley.
He is predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Decker; and grandchildren, Patrick and Garren Ashlaw.
Harold was born on May 3, 1933 in Chateaugay, N.Y. to Leo Decker and Blanche Boyea. He was a graduate of Malone Central High School. He was married to Jacqueline C. Clark on June 23, 1956.
Harold worked on the railroad in Childwold for a few years. He then was a route delivery man for several bread companies. He worked for Durkee's, Wonderbread, Tip Top and Stroehman. Harold retired ten years ago and moved to Parishville.
He was an avid sports fan. He especially loved hockey. He was a strong supporter of Potsdam Junior Hockey for many years working in the volunteer skate shop at Pine Street Arena. He worked the penalty box at Clarkson hockey games for many years.
Harold was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, and currently was a member of St. Mary's Church in Potsdam.
