PHILADELPHIA — Geneva E. Kowaney, 91, formerly of Philadelphia, NY died Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at University Hospital, Syracuse. She had been a resident at St. Camillus Nursing Home and East Side Manor in Syracuse.
Born December 17, 1918 in Philadelphia, NY, she was the daughter of George and Edith Bacon. At an early age she was adopted by Charles and Lettie Lyon Thompson of Philadelphia, NY. Mrs. Kowaney graduated from Philadelphia High School in 1937. She attended Diebert's Business School in Philadelphia for 1 1/2 years and she graduated from Plattsburgh State Teacher's School, with honors, in 1944.
She married Peter Kowaney in December 1963. He died November 24, 1992.
Mrs. Kowaney was a teacher for 35-years in several New York State schools.
She is predeceased by her husband, her parents and two brothers, Keith Cocagne and Kermit Bacon.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Evans Mills Cemetery with Pastor Barry Proctor of the Indian River Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are with Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Theresa, NY.
