Indians begin girls soccer season on successful note

CHAUMONT — Audrey Schwind scored in the 28th minute, and Alex Weston stopped 10 shots to earn a shutout, as the Lyme girls soccer team blanked Thousand Islands, 1-0, in a Frontier League crossover game on Wednesday.

Amanda Goutremount assisted on the score for Lyme (1-0).

Amber Dibble stopped 13 shots in net for Thousand Islands (0-1).

BEAVER RIVER 2, LAFARGEVILLE 0

MacKenzie Meyer and Malori Mattimore each scored a goal in the first 13 minutes as the Beavers picked up the crossover win at LaFargeville.

Alyssa Hulbert recorded six saves in the first shutout of her career for Beaver River (1-0).

Tamara Ives stoped 16 shots for LaFargeville (0-1).

SOUTH LEWIS 5, SACKETS HARBOR 1

Nancy Newell accounted for two goals and one assist to help the Falcons to a season-opening crossover victory at Sackets Harbor.

Sara Young assisted two first-half goals by Jenna Kraeger, and Brooke Pominville added one goal and one assist. Amelia Campbell made three saves for South Lewis.

Sutton Bailey scored for Sackets Harbor.

SANDY CREEK 6,

BELLEVILLE HENDERSON 0

Chelsea Claflin connected on three goals as the host Comets cruised past the Panthers for the crossover win.

Rachel Pretory added a pair of goals for Sandy Creek (1-0). Chelsea Elliott contributed a goal and two assists while Shaina Johnson dished out two assists.

Shelby Contryman stopped 14 shots for Belleville Henderson (0-1).

COPENHAGEN 5, ALEXANDRIA 0

Sara Hovendon had two goals and an assist to lead the Knights to a "D" Division win over the Purple Ghosts in Alexandria Bay.

Morgan Kiernan chipped in two scores, while Cassidy O'Donnell added one score for Copenhagen (1-0).

Alexandria fell to 0-1.

INDIAN RIVER 5, APW 1

Kaitlyn Rajner netted two goals and assisted on a third as the Warriors started its season with a crossover win against the Rebels in Parish.

Erin Heese scored twice, and Elena Shepherd has one tally for Indian River (1-0).

Trisha Walker started the scoring with the first goal of the game for Altmar-Parish-Williamstown (0-1) before Indian River scored five unanswered.

LOWVILLE 2, CARTHAGE 0

Brooke Marshall and Morgan Lampson each scored a goal as the host Red Raiders won a crossover game against the Comets.

Olivia Hanno and Taylor Haenlin each supplied an assist for Lowville (2-0).

Carthage drops to 0-2, 0-1.

WATERTOWN 1, SOUTH JEFFERSON 0

Sophia Capone recorded the game-winner, on an assist from Jillian VanNostrand in the 62nd minute, to lift the Cyclones to the nonleague victory at Adams.

Capone launched her shot into the upper left corner of the goal from about 20 yards out.

Kathleen Bacsik made five saves for Watertown (2-1).

Goalie Bailey Graves turned away five shots for South Jefferson (1-1).

IHC 7, GENERAL BROWN 0

Katelynn Chamberlain scored three goals and assisted on another as the Cavaliers opened their season with a nonleague victory over the visiting Lions.

Adriana Spicer supplied one goal and two assists, and Hannah Connolly, Samantha Alteri and Erin McClusky also scored for Immaculate Heart Central.
