FORT DRUM — A Calcium native and 10th Mountain Division soldier was awarded the Bronze Star for leadership and dedication to duty as a Tactical Unmanned Aerial Platoon Leader during the 1st Brigade Combat Team's deployment in Afghanistan.
Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jason J. Love led a platoon of soldiers that flew unmanned aerial missions in Iraq.
The 14-year veteran of the Army resides in Evans Mills and graduated from Indian River Central School in 1997.
The latest deployment is his third to Afghanistan. He had previously deployed to Iraq, according to his parents John F. and Carmella Love.
More than half of the 3,500-soldier brigade is back from the deployment and the rest are expected home by the end of the month.
