Area midget players to skate in state tourney

ALEXANDRIA — A group of local high school hockey players will compete in the USA Hockey Midget Tier 3 state tournament this weekend at the Town of Alexandria Ice Arena.

Players from Alexandria, Thousand Islands, Immaculate Heart Central, Carthage, and General Brown will make up Team North, one of the eight teams in the round robin tournament.

The other seven teams are Saranac Lake, Bear Mountain, Brooklyn, Batavia, Niagara, Geneva, and Valley.

Team North, which lost in the semifinals of last year’s tournament, is scheduled to play Valley at 3 p.m. Friday, Niagara at 8 a.m. Saturday, and Bear Mountain at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The semifinals are slated for 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday, with the championship game to follow at 5 p.m.
