FORT DRUM — The Army is encouraging soldiers and veterans who were denied Purple Heart awards for brain injuries to resubmit their documents to be reconsidered for the award.

Brain injuries, such as concussions, resulting from an enemy attack have met the requirement for the medal since the Vietnam War, according to an Army news release, but commanders have not always been sure of the requirements. New technology, however, has helped better diagnose the injuries. More information on how to submit is available at www.hrc.army.mil/awards.

The consideration will be for soldiers who have been injured since Sept. 11, 2001.
