Jailed Lowville woman charged with insurance fraud

LOWVILLE — A village woman already jailed on other charges was charged additionally Thursday with insurance fraud.

Village police charged Tiffany V. Thompson, 30, of 5323 Dayan St., with fourth-degree insurance fraud and first-degree falsifying business records. She was arraigned in Village Court and sent to Lewis County jail on $2,000 bail.

She was accused of receiving prescription medication from various pharmacies that were covered by Medicaid, then altering the receipts to file claims with Peerless Insurance for the full retail value of the drugs.

Police did not disclose the amount of money involved in the case.

Senior Investigator Thomas F. Hurley Jr. of the state Department of Financial Services assisted with the investigation.

Ms. Thompson on Tuesday was arrested by Lewis County sheriff’s deputies on charges of petit larceny and unlawful possession of marijuana. She was accused in that case of stealing $900 on Jan. 4 from a residence on Wetmore Road in the town of Watson and possessing a small amount of marijuana.
