CLAYTON A village teenager has told state police that she ended up being raped because she sent a text message to the wrong number.
Donald P. Sheley, 52, of 308 Hugunin St., was arrested Thursday by state police on charges of third-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child. He was sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown, with bail set at $2,500 bail by Clayton Village Justice Clarence F. Giles Jr. He awaits grand jury action.
He is charged in an incident Feb. 1 in the village, police said.
The girl, 16, said she became involved in text messaging with a man after he received her initial misdirected text. When she met the man, alleged to be Mr. Sheley, they engaged in consensual intercourse, police said.
