MARTINSBURG — A Glenfield man faces several charges after allegedly crashing his truck into a trailer home last week on East Martinsburg Road in the town of Martinsburg, displacing its elderly resident.

State police on Feb. 3 charged C.M. Guignard, 21, with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, having no insurance and no registration, driving with a suspended registration, having no inspection, speeding and failing to keep right, police disclosed following an inquiry by the Times on Friday concerning the case. He was arraigned in Lowville Village Court and released on $250 bail to await action in Martinsburg Town Court.

State police said Mr. Guignard was driving east in a pickup truck at 5:28 p.m. Feb. 3 when he failed to negotiate a curve and drove into a residence and a parked car at 6393 East Martinsburg Road.

The trailer’s resident, Dorothy Gardner, 79, was taken to Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, for observation, then released, according to family members.

She is staying with a son because her residence was condemned following the crash, they said.

The truck came within several feet of hitting Mrs. Gardner, who was sitting in her living room, family members said.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
