PORT LEYDEN — The state Department of Environmental Conservation has issued a “no further action proposed” remedial action plan for a former gas station in the town.

The site, 3514 Mechanic St., became a gas station in 1930, after previously being set for residential use, then as a meeting hall. It remained a gas station until being abandoned in 1990 and has been redeveloped by the town as a courthouse facility.

An investigation into the site, commissioned through the state’s Environmental Restoration Program, revealed limited risk to the public water supply, and little expectation of direct contact of residents with contaminated soil.

A public comment period about the site will run until March 23, and a public meeting will be held at 6 p.m. March 6 at the Town Courthouse, 3514 Mechanic St.
