Legg’s double-double powers SLU women’s hoops

CANTON — Kelly Legg recorded a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds as St. Lawrence University held off Vassar, 70-62, for a Liberty League women’s basketball win on Saturday.

Senior Katie Edgerton added 18 points for St. Lawrence (19-4, 15-0), which has won 16 games in a row.

Cydni Matsuoka and Brittany Parks both had 15 points for Vassar (13-9, 7-6).

CLARKSON 96, BARD 25

Brooke Butkovsky led the way with 19 points as five Golden Knights scored in double figures as the Golden Knights routed the Raptors in a Liberty League game in Potsdam.

Carey Turner chipped in with 17 points and nine rebounds for Clarkson (8-14, 3-11).

Liz Freud was the high scorer for Bard (1-21, 0-13) with 12 points.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

CLARKSON 82, BARD 70

Felix Llanos scored 21 points and Marques Charlton added 16 points to lead the Golden Knights (15-8, 8-6) defeated Bard (4-18, 1-12) in a Liberty League game at Alumni Gymnasium in Potsdam.

Jerry Coleman added 12 points, and Nate Uline had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

For Bard, Siondueh Burnette had 19 points and Matt Shubert contributed 16 points.

VASSAR 58, ST. LAWRENCE 57

Johnny Mrlik’s 3-pointer with more than a minute left helped the Brewers edge the Saints in a Liberty League contest in Canton.

Jon Herzog was the game’s high scorer with 21 points for Vassar (8-14, 4-9).

Al Jones had 14 points for St. Lawrence (14-9, 10-5).

ONONDAGA CC 87, JEFFERSON 82

Ian Hamm paced the Lazers with 24 points as they held off the Cannoneers in a Mid-State Athletic Conference game in Syracuse.

Jordan Prior generated 18 points for Onondaga CC (15-11, 6-4).

Jabriel Blue had a game-high 26 points for Jefferson CC (12-13, 6-5).

MEN’S HOCKEY

SUNY BROCKPORT 5, SUNY POTSDAM 3

Mike Baxter netted his first two goals of the year to help the Golden Eagles defaet the Bears in SUNYAC conference play in Brockport.

Oliver Wren turned aside 31 shots for SUNY Brockport (9-12-3, 5-8-2), which is tied with Potsdam for the last playoff spot in the conference.

Kevin McFarland made 40 saves for SUNY Potsdam (8-13-2, 6-8-0).

SUNY CANTON 11, RIT (CLUB) 2

Dan Cibelli tallied two goals and two assists as the Roos romped past the Tigers in Canton.

Jake McCombs and Austin Root each chipped in two goals for SUNY Canton (27-2-3).

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

CLARKSON 3, QUINNIPIAC 2

The Golden Knights scored three times before the Bobcats answered and coasted to an ECAC Hockey win in Hamden, Conn.

Juana Baribeau started the scoring with her 16th goal of the season at 9 minutes, 45 seconsd of the first period. Brittany Styner and Jamie Lee Rattray also scored for Clarkson (20-7-5, 14-4-2).

Eric Uden Johansson and Kate Wheeler had one goal apiece for Quinnipiac (15-14-2, 10-8-2).

ST. LAWRENCE 1, PRINCETON 0

Jessica Hon’s goal at 2:40 of the first period held as the game’s only score as the Saints took their fifth straight ECAC game with a win over the Tigers in Princeton, N.J.

It was Hon’s fourth goal of the year. Goalie Carmen MacDonald made 31 saves for her fourth shutout of the year for St. Lawrence (19-8-4, 13-5-2).

Princeton fell to 10-13-4, 8-10-2.

SUNY POTSDAM 6, CHATHAM 0

Caitlin Manahan scored twice and added an assist as the Bears (10-8-3, 7-8-3) beat the Cougars for the second time in as many days in ECAC West play at Potsdam.

SUNY Potsdam’s Dawna Salvarinas made only 13 saves for the shutout for SUNY Potsdam, whic didn’t allow a goal in both games.

Megan Buchanan stopped 64 shots for Chatham (0-16-0).

INDOOR TRACK

SAINTS’ KINSEY STARS

Hannah Kinsey continued to dominate the Liberty League in the sprints, picking up two individual titles and a relay win, leading St. Lawrence to the Liberty League championships in Canton.

Kinsey swept the dashes for the second straight year, establishing the Liberty League record in the 60 meters with a win in 8.07 seconds and finishing just .03 of a second off the record in the 200.

In the men’s competition, Jarell Roberts earned two victories for the St. Lawrence men in the Liberty League meet.

Roberts won in the 60-meter dash and in the 200 for St. Lawrence, which finished third behind RIT and Rensselaer.
