Parishville, New York Funeral Services for 85-year old John M. Mittelstaedt of Parishville will be held Thursday, Feb. 16 at 11:00 AM at the Seymour Funeral Home in Potsdam with Rev. Patricia Lennox and Rev. Mary Farrington co-pastoring. Friends may call at the Seymour Funeral Home on Wednesday afternoon and evening from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 3:45 PM. Mr. Mittelstaedt died at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena on February 12, 2012.
Survivors include his wife Corliss of Parishville, four daughters Mrs. Wayne (Jo) Richards of Parishville, Ms. Carol Kingsley of Parishville, Mrs. James (Marybeth) Aubrey of North Lawrence, Mrs. Harry (Terry) Miller Jr. of Winchester, VA, a son Allan (and his wife Nancy) Mittelstaedt of Canastota, NY, twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. John was predeceased by a son Christopher Mittelstaedt, two brothers, Paul and Phillip Mittelstaedt, and a sister, Betty Hammond.
John was born in Syracuse, New York on March 6, 1926 the son of John and Eva (Moore) Mittelstaedt. After his graduation from high school he served in the U. S. Army during WW II. John married Corliss V. Whitman at the First Methodist Church in Potsdam, NY on July 14, 1950.
He was employed at ALCOA Metals in Massena for 30 ½ years retiring as a Boiler House Fireman in 1980. He was a member of the ALCOA 25-year club, the Parishville United Methodist Church, Birch Brook Hunting Club in Colton and the Center Riding Club. John was a Past Master of Amber Lodge 395 Free & Accepted Masons in Parishville, a member of High Falls #428 Free & Accepted Masons in Colton, and a former District officer for the 2nd St. Lawrence District Masonry. He was a board member and supporter of the Parishville Museum.
If friends desire memorials may be made in his memory to the Parishville United Methodist Church, or to the Parishville Museum.
