Bears’ Taylor earns SUNYAC Athlete of Week

SUNY Potsdam swimmer Alexander Taylor was named the SUNY Athletic Conference’s Athlete of the Week for swimming based on his performance at the SUNYAC Championships over the weekend.

Taylor won the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke events and set four SUNY Potsdam records and one conference mark in the meet. His time of 2:06.61 in the 200 breaststroke broke the conference record.

■ SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey player Annmarie Lewis earned the ECAC West Player of the Week honor. She had four goals as part of an eight-point weekend for the Bears.

■ Clarkson women’s basketball freshman Brooke Burtkovsky was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week. She averaged 10 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for the Golden Knights last week. She scored a career-high 19 points against Bard College in Clarkson’s 96-25 win.

■ Other local college athletes represented in the Liberty League weekly awards include: Kelly Legg (SLU, women’s basketball), Ibrahim Khan (SLU, men’s squash), Jerrell Roberts (SLU, men’s track and field), Adam McNichol (SLU, men’s track and field), Hannah Kinsey (SLU, women’s track and field), and Eliza Bell (SLU, women’s track and field).
