ELLISBURG One man suffered gunshot wounds and another man was arrested on a weapons charge in a hunting accident Saturday morning in a wooded area off Woodpecker Lane, according to police.
The victim, whose name was not released, was stable and was taken by LifeNet medical helicopter to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, according to the Jefferson County Sheriffs Department. No further information about him was available Saturday night.
Deputies charged Gerald D. Wells Jr., 40, of Hannibal, with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon at 8 a.m. Saturday. He is accused of possessing a firearm, a CVA muzzle loader, while on probation. He is to appear in Ellisburg Town Court.
The sheriffs department and state Department of Environmental Conservation police are investing. The Mannsville Volunteer Fire Department and South Jefferson Rescue responded to the scene before LifeNet was called.
